About Project

My boyfriend, Andrew and I planned a trip at the end of March to drive to Big Sur from Chicago. There, we would meet his two close friends and celebrate Andrew’s upcoming birthday.

Andrew has an Instagram account called @murdermecca where he posts, in his own words, true crime anecdotes along with an image having to do with the story. In just 3 years, he has grown to almost 6,000 followers. True Crime is his passion alongside writing and I wanted to do something special to commemorate his hard work for his birthday.

The design for Murder Mecca is inspired by a vintage Metallica t-shirt. I used bright colors to captivate the urgency a viewer feels when reading the news. I created a hat, t-shirts and sweatshirts and bleach-dyed the black sweatshirts for a more chaotic effect.

Once we arrived to Big Sur to camp, we surprised Andrew all wearing the sweatshirts.
